The definition of what is a legacy is defined as follows.
The baton of family history was passed to us involuntarily. Some call the baton our heritage, genealogy, family history, stories, land or possessions. However,
our legacy is the celebration of our hopes and dreams for the future, that will be passed on to our next generation as a living testimony of their promise of tomorrow.
Most people identify a legacy as family heirlooms, the family land, money or keepsakes. The most precious definitions of a legacy are not able to be held in the hand or trust. Your legacy is your mark. Your footprint. Your contribution.
Your voice is the most precious of all legacy gifts that you can bestow to your next generations.
There is Power in your voice, in your name, in your history and in the children’s future. A lasting legacy is about you during your life and the way those actions affect how you are remembered. Examples of lasting legacy is the effect of any person you can think of and how their life effected you or those in the public like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Lewis and Clark, George Washington Carver, Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, or John Wayne, just to name a few.
Your legacy far exceeds the importance of celebrities legacies to your descendants. Your legacy is most important to your descendants, as their existence is attributed directly to you! You can never be taken out of the equation of their legacy from you.
Other examples of legacy include love, respect, kindness, contributions, counseling, recommendations, nonmonetary gifts and rearing.
Money, land, heirlooms and jewels are commonly thought of as a legacy but is only a small fraction of your legacy and the least remembered by history.
A will, trust, estate or inheritance is commonly referred to as the benefactor’s legacy. Everyone leaves a legacy whether you want to or not. The question is will it be intentional or not? Live your legacy by design not by default.
Legacy is more about caring, sharing and teaching what you have learned, not just about what you have earned.
The sound of our voice to those that mean the most to us priceless. No greater legacy than your voice can be passed on to your generations to come. Your voice gives the sound of who you are, bonding a personality to a picture that is incapable to do with written words. No greater gift can be given or a bequest, than your voice that is handed down, endowed or conveyed to those you love and those yet to be born. Everything that you say and do is a deposit into your legacy.
Every day you are adding to your legacy. The story of your life reflects the boundaries of your legacy.
Legacy is the connection across time linking us to the future. Legacy is not just about death, our legacy is about who we are and how we will be remembered.
“If you live a long and creative life, you will leave an eternal legacy”
Your voice is time sensitive, speak now while it counts.
Leave a legacy. Will you make it count? Leave more than a silent photograph as your legacy.
